Road traffic collisions
The RTC section conducts examinations of serious road traffic collision scenes to determine the sequence of events surrounding the collision and provides reports on findings to the courts. They can also examine individual vehicle components to determine if their condition had contributed to the cause of a collision.

This work involves the examination of serious road traffic collision scenes and the vehicles involved, to determine the sequence of events surrounding the collision.

A variety of tools and techniques are used to conduct collision reconstructions, including computer modelling. If applicable, specialist equipment is used to retrieve crash data stored on vehicles’ electronic control units.
The Reporting Officers provide reports which may be used in criminal, civil or coroner’s courts.
