Fires and explosives

FSNI conducts scene examinations where there have been incidents of explosions and serious fires. Materials submitted are analysed for the presence of fire accelerants or explosive content. The remains are also examined for identification/comparison purposes.

Scene examinations

fire-scene

Staff from this section frequently examine scenes of serious fires (for example, scenes where a fatality or a large financial loss has occurred). Scenes of explosions (or incidents involving finds of explosive devices/materials) are also attended.

These examinations are undertaken to establish the cause of the incident and/or to recover evidence which may link/eliminate persons suspected of involvement.

Materials analysed

Materials submitted to the section, such as debris or the remains of explosive/incendiary devices, are analysed for the presence of fire accelerants or explosive content.

The remains of devices and components are also examined for identification/comparison purposes.
