The bulletin presents data on first time entrants to the criminal justice system in Northern Ireland for the year 1 April 2019 – 31 March 2020.  In 2019/20, first time entrants to the justice system constituted 26.8% of all those dealt with at court or by formal diversionary disposal.  Of these first time entrants, 28.8% (2,244) were dealt with by way of formal diversionary disposal, compared to 71.2% (5,561) dealt with by conviction.
