First Time Entrants to the Justice System in Northern Ireland 2018/19

The bulletin presents data on first time entrants to the criminal justice system in Northern Ireland for the year 1 April 2018 – 31 March 2019.  In 2018/19, first time entrants to the justice system constituted 27.2% of all those dealt with at court or by formal diversionary disposal.  Of these first time entrants, 30.1% (2,388) were dealt with by way of formal diversionary disposal, compared to 69.9% (5,537) dealt with by conviction.
