First Time Entrants to the Criminal Justice System in Northern Ireland 2023/24

The bulletin presents data on first time entrants to the criminal justice system in Northern Ireland for the year 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024.
In 2023/24, first time entrants to the justice system constituted 26.5% of all those dealt with at court or by formal diversionary disposal. Of these first time entrants, 25.0% (1,998) were dealt with by way of formal diversionary disposal, compared to 75.0% (5,903) dealt with by conviction.
