In 2021/22, first time entrants to the justice system constituted 24.5% of all those dealt with at court or by formal diversionary disposal. Of these first time entrants, 28.3% (1,954) were dealt with by way of formal diversionary disposal, compared to 71.6% (4,932) dealt with by conviction.
The bulletin presents data on first time entrants to the criminal justice system in Northern Ireland for the year 1 April 2021 – 31 March 2022.
