David Ford today met Treasury Minister Damian Hinds, who was in Northern Ireland to launch a new ground breaking road side test for the new fuel marker, which is designed to combat fuel fraud.
David Ford said: “Fuel fraud is a serious issue in Northern Ireland funding organised crime, as well as impacting on legitimate business, unwitting purchasers and the environment. I therefore welcome this new phase in tackling fuel fraud through the use of this new testing equipment, which is portable and produces rapid results.
“I had a useful meeting with Damian Hinds. We discussed a number of initiatives, for HMRC and local justice bodies. I was reassured by his commitment to addressing this ongoing problem.
“This initiative sends a clear signal to organised criminals that Government will continue to find new ways to target this unacceptable activity.”
