Nexus NI awarded contract to run Domestic and Sexual Abuse Helpline

Nexus NI has been awarded the tender to manage the Domestic and Sexual Abuse (DSA) Helpline.
The Helpline offers free, confidential support 24/7 to anyone impacted by domestic and/or sexual abuse in Northern Ireland.
The contract was awarded jointly by the Department of Justice, Department of Health and Department for Communities.
It runs for an initial three-year period, followed by two optional extension periods of two years each.
Justice Minister Naomi Long said:
“I understand the trauma that victims of sexual and domestic abuse experience. Sexual violence is one of the most invasive and harrowing crimes anyone can experience, and the impact is incredibly traumatic for victims.
“Tailored support is essential in helping survivors navigate that trauma and rebuild their lives and so I want to pay tribute to Nexus NI for their proven track-record in delivering this essential service and wish them continued success in the future.
“The Domestic and Sexual Abuse Strategy, which we launched in September 2024, is an important piece of work, but we can never be complacent if we want to deliver the vision that Northern Ireland should be a place where domestic and sexual abuse is not tolerated and everyone can be safe and free from fear.”
Health Minister Mike Nesbitt said:
“Most of us are aware of the long-lasting and detrimental impact domestic and sexual abuse can have on victims – women, men and children; and the considerable effect it can have on family and friends. The award of this contract to Nexus marks an important step in strengthening vital support for individuals affected by domestic and sexual abuse.
“Ensuring that a compassionate, professional, and accessible 24‑hour freephone service is available is an essential lifeline to people who may be scared, feeling vulnerable and unsure of what to do or where to seek help. This contract will help deliver the reliable support people deserve.”
Communities Minister Gordon Lyons said:
“This funding partnership is an example of meaningful joint working across Government to support people across Northern Ireland.
“Domestic and sexual abuse can have a damaging and lasting impact and that is why I am pleased to be able to offer my continued support and ensure that this vital service remains available to all who need it.”
Nexus NI is the leading organisation in Northern Ireland supporting individuals impacted by sexual abuse and abusive relationships. It has managed the DSA Helpline since 2019.
