Anti-social behaviour public consultation responses published
Date published:
Responses to a public consultation on a review of anti-social behaviour legislation have been published by the Department of Justice.

The joint Department of Justice (DoJ) and Department for Communities (DfC) consultation sought views on:
- Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs);
- Drinking in Public;
- Injunctions Against Anti-Social Behaviour;
- Absolute Grounds for Possession.
The consultation confirmed that the legislative framework to tackle drinking in public needs to be updated to ensure it is fit for purpose. DoJ and DfC will continue to work with the PSNI with a view to bringing forward legislation.
It also identified that further policy development work needs to be carried out with respect to Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs).
The summary of responses and way forward are available on the DoJ website.
Notes to editors:
- DoJ are leading on the consideration of potential legislative change to anti-social behaviour orders and are working collaboratively with DfC on the proposals related to drinking in public. The remaining provisions are led solely by DfC.
- The consultation ran from 28 November 2023, closing on 4 March 2024. An extension was approved until 5 April 2024 to enable a small number of organisations additional time to respond.
