    Summary

    This consultation proposes reforms to limit the level of representation paid from public legal aid funds to represent those who are financially assisted to take, or defend, actions in the civil and family courts.

    Consultation description

    The proposals follow the Access to Justice Review Report 2011. The proposals focus on bringing civil legal aid expenditure within budget and are contained in the Departmental Action Plan published as part of the Department of Justice’s response to the Review.

    • a background to the consultation and the Department’s Response;
    • the reform proposals, summary criteria and guidance;
    • a summary of the views expressed by respondents together with a response by the Department.
