YJA as an Employer
The Youth Justice Agency employs over 207 people, the Agency provides a range of statute-based and non-statutory support services to young people who offend between the ages of 10 to 17 years, both within the community and within custody, and often delivered in partnership with others, with an emphasis on:-
• diverting children and young people from crime;
• helping children and young people to address their offending behaviour;
• assisting their integration into the community; and
• meeting the needs of the victims of crime.
Our community-based services are delivered through five Area Teams located across Northern Ireland. Custodial services for children and young people is provided by our Woodlands Juvenile Justice Centre which is located in Bangor and services the needs of all of Northern Ireland.
Our frontline services are delivered by qualified social workers and youth workers. The YJA also employs people to work in other areas of the organisation such as operational support staff e.g. night support workers, catering staff, health professionals and administration staff.
