Justice Minister, Claire Sugden has acknowledged the vital role of the Police Rehabilitation and Retraining Trust in providing services to serving and retired police officers and their families.

Minister Sugden meets members of PRRT

Minister Sugden was speaking during a visit to the premises of the Police Rehabilitation and Retraining Trust (PRRT), where she met the Board members and staff to hear about the support they provide.

Minister Sugden said: “I welcome the opportunity to meet the PRRT Board and staff and to hear at first-hand about the services they provide. PRRT has a vital role to play in supporting serving and retired police officers and their families, as well as members of the wider justice family.

PRRT offers a range of clinical and support services to police officers, prior to and after cessation of their service.

It also provides services to the wider justice sector, including: prison officers; staff from NI Court Service; the Office of the Police Ombudsman; the Forensic Science NI; the Youth Justice Agency; and members of the Judiciary.

The types of services include helping retiring and retired officers to prepare for their future and make a successful transition from policing to civilian life. Crucially, they also provide a range of mental and physical health support services including physiotherapy and psychotherapy.

Minister Sugden commended staff, saying: “The services provided by PRRT make a real difference in the lives of their clients and, crucially, help improve both their mental and physical health and well-being. I very much appreciate the personal commitment and contribution of the PRRT Board and staff in this vital work.”
