The Calibration Laboratory team provide services for PSNI Road Traffic Policing - involving the installation, maintenance and calibration of their equipment for breath testing and speed detection.
The Electronics Casework team performs a comprehensive range of digital and electronics forensics examinations covering most technological aspects.
Mobile phones, their associated SIM cards and memory cards can be downloaded and analysed for communication data records and stored media files, both live (currently available to the user) and deleted (no longer viewable on the device). The use of multiple systems ensures the most comprehensive data recovery effort.
The computer products offered by the unit range from data recovery of live and deleted information, collated for viewing by the customer, to in-depth data movement and timeline analysis. Examinations may be targeted to check for specific information, track the origin of derived data and determine file associated meta-data; tailored to the customers’ requirements.
Damaged electronic devices
Damaged electronic devices may still provide a source of forensic evidence; the team provide a best effort reconstruction and repair service as part of the examination process. This involves work ranging from mobile phone screen replacement to complex microchip removal from a damaged SIM card.
Reported information is presented as a Statement of Witness and if necessary, a digital sub-exhibit (Optical disk (CD/DVD) or USB portable device depending on required capacity) and attached report (subject to the quantity of data).
Other services offered include the examination of:
- stun guns
- laser pens
- credit card skimming and recording equipment
- RF detectors/jammers
- electrical installations and other electronic devices
